Therapy

Individual therapy can take many forms depending on what brings a client in for treatment. Oftentimes we associate seeking therapy as a sign that something has gone terribly wrong that needs “fixing,” but therapy is about far more than just trying to resolve a problem. Our therapists offer a variety of different talk therapy strategies that can help clients gain the tools and insight they need to find their own way in their healing journey. Think of your time in therapy as driving a car: your therapist acts as the wheels, helping to make the ride smoother, but you are the driver who ultimately decides where the car is going and how fast you’ll get there.

While every therapy modality brings strengths and weaknesses, rest assured that you and your therapist will craft the perfect road map to help you reach the goals you are looking to achieve. Check out just a few of the modalities that Out of the Woods providers offer below!

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

One of the most common modalities of therapy, CBT is a goal-oriented and structured type of therapy that aims to help clients identify and change negative thought patterns in their lives. CBT allows clients to unravel what these thought patterns have shifted for their emotions and behaviors.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

DBT is a therapy modality that focuses on four primary modules: mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Through these four modules, DBT aims to help clients learn to accept their emotions as well as the negative aspects of life, and adapt their behaviors to be successful.

Adolescent Individual Therapy

This therapy allows minors ages 13-17 the opportunity to explore their burgeoning independence and create a safe place for them to address a variety of issues. This therapy differs from family therapy in that the minor attends sessions alone to allow for a strong sense of trust in their therapist.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

While IFS may sound like family therapy, it is actually a modality of individual therapy that seeks to help clients identify and address the sub-parts of self that all of us contain. These parts often conflict with each other and with our true Self, and IFS aims to heal the wounded parts and bring mental balance to the system.

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

SFBT is a short-term therapy modality that focuses predominantly on finding solutions to the client’s issues rather than exploring the origins of the issues. SFBT incorporates many positive psychology principles to empower clients to navigate the challenges of life with a future-oriented mindset.

Alderian Therapy

Adlerian therapy aims to dismantle feelings of inferiority and help clients to increase their overall sense of belonging. Social constructs like birth order, family dynamics, or other social development periods are a focus as well as how to take insights gained in those areas and apply them towards change.
